Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

With this picture from our very first Christmas Show, I'd like to wish all students, parents and staff members a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope you will all have a fantastic break, and we will see each other again in 2018. School starts on Tuesday the 9th, at 08.45 as usual.

(By the way, it was a great Christmas Show with many skilled student performances accompanied by the combined Student/Staff Christmas Band, and all of us agreed that this will be part of our School Traditions for years to come!)

A New Academic Year

A New Academic Year

Preparations for a New Academic Year

It's soon time to open up the school for our students, and we in the administration are fully working with getting all details—big and small—in place. Next week the teachers will start working, and I am currently planning the induction for all new staff—who this year come from Canada and USA as well as from Sweden. You find all new teachers at this page, and our new school assistants and Junior Club staff on this page.

I would like to say a warm Welcome to all our students, and of course an especially warm ditto to our new Grade 4 students and their parents! All students start school the same day—Thursday, August 17th. Here is the agenda for that day.

Reorganisation in our buildings

The most obvious change for this new year, is a change of homerooms in our two buildings. Our old students will notice that our former Junior Building—with Grade 4–5 students—now have become our Senior Building—with grade 8–9 students. And our former Senior Building is now instead named our Main Building. There are several reasons for this change—the most important one is, for security reasons, to have our most junior students in the house where we have the most adults at any given time. This allows us at the same time to create a little bit more grown-up and academic student environment for our senior students.

Our first Graduates

In June this year the first students ever graduated from IES Hässleholm, and I'm so happy to be able to say that IES delivers! Their average academic score was sky high above other schools, both in Hässleholm and Sweden, and student testimonials at their prom—with students telling about how both the school and their classmates had made them achive more that they thought were possible—convinced me that our school really is on the right track! I'm so proud and happy to be its principal, and I and my staff will keep on working with its development. I do look forward to its third academic year!

Open House Evening - Wednesday, 1 February 2017

Prospective parents will have the chance to meet the new Principal of Internationella Engelska Skolan Hässleholm during an Open House evening on February 1.

Mr Max Gossell has been appointed to provide leadership to IES Hässleholm as the school continues to develop. He is an experienced educator and school manager who has worked in education for fourteen years. After working as a teacher, he became a Vice-Principal ten years ago and Principal in 2011. He has been the founding Principal of two new upper secondary schools in Malmö, and has completed the national school leadership training programme (Rektorsutbildning).

Speaking about his appointment he said: "I’m so proud and happy to have been appointed Principal of Internationella Engelska Skolan Hässleholm. In IES, I have finally found a school organization that not only optimally prepares each student for further studies, but also for their future in an increasingly globalized world. My intention is to honor and respect the school's core values as the foundation from which we can all help each other to remain a school where teachers can teach and students learn."

Ralph Riber, CEO of Internationella Engelska Skolan, added: “I am pleased to have recruited a Principal with the experience of Mr Gossell to help drive our school in Hässleholm from strength to strength.

“It has been a pleasure to get to know him during the recruitment process and to hear his views on education, which so closely mirror our own.  He shares our strong belief in helping students to realize their full academic potential, and understands the importance of a safe and calm school environment.”

Mr Gossell has agreed to take up the position as Principal of IES Hässleholm as Mr Chris Nilsson, will be the founding Principal of our new school in Landskrona. The two educators are coordinating closely to ensure a smooth handover and Mr Gossell will officially take up his role from January 1.

Internationella Engelska Skolan Hässleholm will hold an Open House evening on Wednesday, 1 February 2017 from 17:00 until 19:30.  During the evening parents will have the chance to meet Mr Gossell, see the school and ask questions.
